World Usability Day 2010 Ends and Gears Up for 2011!

Elizabeth Rosenzweig

Elizabeth is the Founder and Director of World Usability Day.

UPA's World Usability Day (WUD) 2010 kicked off with its first ever Partner Events in five cities including a kickoff in Tokyo, Japan, and events in Malaysia, Scotland, and the United States. As events continued around the globe, many people celebrated usability and communication in over 44 countries at more than 150 events.

We always like to hear what happened at your local event. You can read postings of local event highlights on http://www.worldusabilityday.org/share/event-highlights! Your experiences are shared with everyone from around the world and you can see what others have posted.

Did you connect? Participants got connected with their peers while supporting WUD. Powered by EventBrite, the Connection Wall is an excellent example of how we all can better communicate with each other. By signing up, you can choose your level of support and visibility ranking on the Connection Wall. Regardless of the level you choose (Sponsor, Small Business, or Professional) the Connection Wall allows you to link to both your Twitter and Facebook accounts.

In addition to getting connected and raising your visibility, your support of the Connection Wall helps ensure the financial well being of WUD. As new communications tools proliferate, the need for usability grows exponentially. WUD is a unique player in the effort to raise awareness of the importance of usability. Your support is key to WUD's future.

WUD 2011

Save the date! Don't forget to start preparing for next year. World Usability Day 2011 will occur on November 10. Our theme is Education: Designing for Social Change. More details are coming soon, but you can start planning your event today. Let's start the decade with a bang and let the world know just how important usability is in our daily lives!

Don't forget to sign our Charter to ensure that technology helps people live to their full potential and helps create a better world for all citizens everywhere.

Do you have recommendations or other creative ideas for others? Become a contributor and share them on the WUD blog. We hope you will share your experiences and encourage your colleagues and friends to be a part of our team!

World Usability Day (WUD) was founded in 2005 as an initiative of the Usability Professionals' Association to ensure that services and products important to human life are easier to access and simpler to use. Each year, on the second Thursday of November, events are organized in over 44 countries around the world to raise the public's awareness, and to train professionals in the tools and issues central to good usability research, development, and practice.
