UPA Member Spotlight: Aaron Marcus Elected to CHI Academy

Silvia C. Zimmermann is the UPA President.

The UPA is pleased to announce that the CHI Academy has elected UPA member and UX Editor-in-Chief Aaron Marcus, President, Aaron Marcus and Associates, Inc., Berkeley, California, to its organization, which is one of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Special Interest Group for Computer-Human Interaction's (SIGCHI) highest honors.

SIGCHI recognizes the work Aaron Marcus has been doing for 40 years to support the highest quality of graphic design, computer graphics, user-interface design, information visualization, and cross-cultural user-experience design among all these professions and his efforts to bring them together for mutual benefit and more effective computer-based communication and interaction.

Aaron Marcus was the first graphic designer in the world to work with computer graphics technology in 1967 at ATT Bell Labs. In 1992, the National Computer Graphics Association awarded him an Industry Achievement award. In 2000, Aaron Marcus was named to the ICOGRADA Hall of Fame for Graphic Designers of the Twentieth Century. In 2007, the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) named him a Fellow. His company Aaron Marcus and Associates, Inc. (AM+A), founded in 1982, helped to design the user interfaces of the first versions of AOL, Travelocity, Orbitz, and the Anoto Livescribe smart pen.
