The UPA is pleased to announce that Rahel Anne Bailie was named a Fellow by The Society for Technical Communication (STC). Rahel Anne Bailie, a senior member and Associate Fellow of the Society, was honored at the STC annual conference in Atlanta, GA on 5 May.
Fellow is the highest rank that the Society confers upon a member. Candidates for this honor are nominated by members and must have at least 15 years of experience in technical communication and have been a member for at least 10 years. Recipients of the Fellow designation have attained eminence in the field of technical communication through achievements and contributions to the profession and Society.
"The accomplishments of Fellows reflect a breadth of achievement that has benefitted the Society and our profession enormously," STC President Mark Clifford explains.
Fellows must first have served as Associate Fellows for at least two years and continued their measurable contributions to the field, conducted original work that advances technical communication, or made significant contributions to the Society at multiple levels. Candidates are evaluated against criteria in six categories and must show overall excellence in these categories.
Bailie joined the STC in 1990, as a member of the Montreal chapter, and transferred to the Canada West Coast chapter in 1992, where she has served in various volunteer capacities since 1995, including chapter president and in her current role as Innovation Strategist. She founded her Vancouver-based consultancy, Intentional Design, in 2002, and provides content strategies and leads user-centered design initiatives to clients on several continents. She is part of several organizations aside from STC, including the Information Architecture Institute, Usability Professionals' Association, Vancouver User Experience, and High-Tech Communicators' Exchange, by which she stays current in related practice areas.
