User Friendly 2006 - Hangzhou, China
By Daniel Szuc, UPA China (Hong Kong Branch)
Daniel Szuc is a principal at Apogee Usability in Asia and is the President of the Usability Professionals Associationís UPA China chapter (Hong Kong Branch).
In late 2004, Qin Lin, Josephine Wong, Jason Huang and Daniel Szuc from both the UPA Hong Kong and UPA China Chapters met in Shanghai to talk about usability and how both chapters could work together more effectively. It was a great opportunity to make new friends, to talk about how we could further promote usability in China, and to build a usability community long-term.
We all agreed that there were not many opportunities for people practicing usability in China to meet each other and discuss their experiences. We thought ... How about organizing a UPA conference in China where we could invite some international, local and regional speakers to help bring the community together? User Friendly 2004 was created!
With only a few months to prepare, the UPA China and Hong Kong teams went to work and did a superb job. User Friendly 2004 was held at the Beijing University. The first day of the conference featured short presentations on a variety of usability topics with speakers from China, Australia, Singapore, US and Hong Kong. Day Two offered six half-day workshops on user-centered design, usability testing, personas, information architecture and prototyping.
User Friendly 2005 was held in Shanghai on 17th and 18th December and attracted more than 300 of the estimated 400 people practicing usability in China, with attendees also coming from neighboring countries such as Korea and Taiwan. Invited guest speakers came from North America, Europe, and Australia.
User Friendly 2006 is a three day conference to be held at Dragon Hotel, Hangzhou on 3rd, 4th, and 5th November 2006.
It will be the largest Usability conference to date in China, and held in both English and Chinese. We have invited the following speakers:
We also have a large selection of topics, ranging from Organizational Usability, Accessibility, Usability Testing, Product Ideation, Interaction Design and Setting up Usability Teams, to name a few. We are also introducing “roundtables” where participants have an opportunity to sit with an expert speaker to discuss a selected topic in depth.
User Friendly is now entering its 3rd year and becoming one of the most recognized events for Usability in China. We have welcomed participants from major companies supporting Usability in China like eBay, Yahoo, Nokia, Sohu, Sina, Siemens, Lenovo and Microsoft, to name a few. User Friendly also provides an excellent platform for international speakers to share their knowledge and also learn from the Chinese Usability community.
We welcome new and old friends to come to User Friendly 2006 and promise everyone a great time! For more information, you may contact Dan at firstname.lastname@example.org.
