Usability Body of Knowledge (BoK) Survey

By Nigel Bevan and the BoK Editorial Board

The BoK editorial board currently consists of Nigel Bevan, Dean Barker, Lisa Battle, Duane Degler, Tom McCann, Brooks Protzmann, and Carol Smith.

The UPA is working on an ambitious project to define a Body of Knowledge (BoK), a living reference that represents the collective knowledge of the usability profession and provides an authoritative source of reference and definition of the scope of the profession.

You are invited to help us shape this important effort at an early stage by participating in a survey about what you would expect to find in the Body of Knowledge as it is developed.

To find out more about the types of content that are currently envisioned for the BoK, please visit the Body of Knowledge preview site, and consider:

Usability BoK Subject Areas

The BoK preview site is a draft for the purpose of gathering your feedback. As the Body of Knowledge continues to grow, the web site will also be expanded and enhanced to provide different ways of viewing and summarizing the information for different audiences.

Because one of the goals of the BoK project is to promote the advancement, understanding, and recognition of the usability profession, some of the information in the Body of Knowledge will remain available to the public. At the same time, more detailed types of information targeted to usability practitioners will become a benefit for UPA members and subscribers.

Please email bok at if you are interested in contributing as an author or reviewer.

We look forward to hearing your opinions!

You can also meet us at the Body of Knowledge SIG at the UPA 2006 conference on the Wednesday evening.
